Romania's former finance minister appointed head of the tax agency
Romania’s prime minister Viorica Dancila decided on Wednesday, March 28, to appoint former finance minister Ionut Misa as president of the tax agency ANAF.
Finance minister Eugen Teodorovici proposed Misa for this position.
Ionut Misa was finance minister in the Mihai Tudose cabinet, from June 2017 until January 2018. Before that, he managed the big taxpayers department within ANAF.
He is considered the artisan of the so-called “fiscal revolution” the Tudose government adopted at the end of last year, which included the social contribution transfer from employers to employees and other fiscal measures that were not very well received by the local business environment. In October 2017, Teodorovici, who was head of the Senate’s economic committee at that time, said that Misa should be changed as finance minister due to the lack of consistency in his statements. He also said, at that time, that he hadn’t seen anything good done by Misa as finance minister.
