Japanese engraving exhibition at the National Art Museum in Bucharest

A Japanese engraving exhibition entitled “Pilgrimage to Mount Fuji. Katsushika Hokusai engravings”, opens on Thursday, April 28 at the National Art Museum of Romania (MNAR), 49-53, Victoriei St. The exhibition is organized as a sign of homage and solidarity with the Japanese people, following the recent tragic events that had as the starting point the earthquake on March 11 this year.

During the event, a series of engravings by Katsushika Hokusai (1760-1849) will be presented, called “The thirty-six views of Mount Fuji”, to which the author later added another ten works. His landscapes marks a peak moment of the Japanese art history called ukiyo-e (images of the transient world).

38 pieces from MNAR collections, published in modern print, good quality, from the early twentieth century will also be displayed in the exhibition. The exhibition is open until July 31, from Wednesday to Sunday between 10.00 - 18.00 hours during April and between 11.00 - 19.00 hours from May 1.
