Journalist accuses Romanian state-owned TVR's interim GM of incompetence, misuse of documents serving clientele interests

04 March 2014

Stelian Tanase, the interim general manager of Romanian state-owned TV station TVR, was publicly accused of “misuse of human and material resources” within the institution, “incompetence and negligence at work” and “issuing administrative or other kind of documents that serve group or clientele interests”, reports local Hotnews.ro.

The accusations were made by TVR journalist Mihai Radulescu in a public warning sent to Culture Committees of the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies, and to the National Audiovisual Council CNA.

Radulescu’s accusations came after Stelian Tanase brought several journalists outside TVR to host shows on public channels. As a result, according to Radulescu, “for the first time in the history of the public television, all the hosts of debates shows on current issues, scheduled in prime-time, are external collaborators,” writes Hotnews.ro.

Also, Radulescu’s intervention came the day before the CNA discuss changes in TVR’s program schedule, announced last week by Stelian Tanase, but put on hold after the audiovisual forum postponed the vote on this issue.

TVR’s spring schedule should have started on March 1. Tanase is a writer, essayist, film director and political analyst. He was named interim at the helm of the public TV company in late 2013. Earlier in February this year, he said he was inclined to believe he had made an error by taking over the helm of troubled TVR.
