Kevin Costner thanks Romanians in Golden Globes awards acceptance speech
Actor Kevin Costner, who recently received the Golden Globe for his leading role in the TV miniseries Hatfields and McCoys, thanked Romania in his award acceptance speech in Los Angeles. The TV mini-series was successful in the United States, where the first episode aired on the History Channel on May 28 (Memorial Day) in 2012, registering an audience of 13.9 million viewers. Hatfields and McCoys describes the rivalry between the Hatfield and McCoy families in the years after the US Civil War. Filming took place in 2011, mostly in Castel Film Studios in Romania, but also on location in Arges and Brasov, over a period of 13 weeks, during which time Kevin Costner, the main actor, was in Romania.
In a recent interviewed for Romanian media, Costner said he was pleasantly surprised by the Romanian work style, and gave the example of how the local production team found a solution when they needed to replicate the shape of a certain tree: they proposed cutting the tree and moving it to where it was needed. “We did not do it in the end, but this idea would have never come in the US,” said Costner.
The mini-series has already received five Emmy Awards, while a Romanian, Dragos Stanomir won a Creative Arts Emmy award for the same film.
The Golden Globes awards ceremony took place yesterday (January 13 ) in Los Angeles.
