KFC opens first Coffee Corner in Romania

07 April 2017

KFC Romania opened its first Coffee Corner in the country, within the KFC Unirea restaurant located in downtown Bucharest.

The coffee shop required an investment of over EUR 100,000.

Besides various coffee types, customers have a variety of cakes and bakery products, such as croissants or pain au chocolat, and other types of beverages.

“We’ve chosen the central area (of Bucharest) due to the heavy traffic at all times of the day,” said Monica Eftimie, KFC Romania Chief Marketing Officer.

In Romania, the KFC restaurant chain is operated via a franchise system. The license for Romania was granted in 1997 to the company US Food Network. It includes 63 restaurants both in Bucharest and in other cities such as Timisoara, Cluj-Napoca, Suceava, Oradea, Pitesti and Brasov. KFC Romania also operates two restaurants in Chisinau, Republic of Moldova.

US Food Network had sales of EUR 72 million and a net profit of EUR 9.2 million, with over 1,900 employees, in 2015.

KFC’s main local competitor McDonald’s opened its first McCafe in Romania in December 2010 and currently operates over 20 such units.
