KLM to let passengers choose in-flight neighbors from Facebook and LinkedIn profiles

16 December 2011

Dutch airline KLM is working on offering its passengers a way to choose who they sit next to on a flight, based on their Facebook and LinkedIn profile. The service is called 'meet and seat' and will be available for those who check in online. The new service also offers an opt-out option, for those who do not want to share personal information with the other passengers.

Malaysia Airlines already has a similar scheme that lets passengers check for Facebook contacts on flights.

Facebook is a social network that has over 800 million users around the world. It has become increasingly popular and is embraced not only by individuals, but by companies as well, hoping to interact better with their customers. LinkedIn is a website that offers professional profiles of individuals and companies and allows users to connect based on work-related common interests.
