Largest low-cost airlines in Romania transport over 4.5 mln people
Wizz Air, Blue Air, and Ryanair, the three most important low-cost airlines operating in Romania, transported over 4.5 million passengers in the first half of the year.
This represents two-thirds (63%) of the total number of passengers who transited airports in Romania during this period, reports local Adevarulfinanciar.ro.
By comparison, the three companies transported 3.28 million people in the first six months of 2015. The number of transported passengers thus rose by 37.2% year-on-year.
In total, 7.15 million people transited Romania’s airports between January and June this year, up 18% year-on-year, according to the National Statistics Institute (INS).
Wizz Air transported 2.4 million passengers in the first six months of the year, up 10% year-on-year. The company opened six new routes from Romania during this period.
Blue Air transported 1.4 million passengers in the first half of the year, up 82% year-on-year. The company introduced 25 new routes in the first six months of the year.
Ryanair saw an annual increase of 127% between January and June this year compared to the same period in 2015, reaching 680,000 passengers.
