Largest online retailer in Romania eMag starts operations in Hungary

Romania’s largest online retailer eMag, majority owned by South Africa-based media group Naspers, started operations in Hungary, according to local business newspaper Ziarul Financiar.

The emag.hu website is already accessible, but visitors can’t acquire products yet. They can only register in the online retailer’s data base to receive future promotional messages. Also, besides opening the emag.hu website, the retailer launched a recruitment campaign looking for people to manage its businesses in Hungary.

Online retailer eMag, launched 12 years ago, posted a turnover of EUR 145 million in 2011, making it the largest online retailer in Romania. It sells IT&C products, books, insurance, toys and even cosmetics, among others.
