Largest planetarium in Romania opens in Brasov

13 March 2019

The largest planetarium in Romania will open at Brasov Zoo Park, most probably starting April 1. Movies from a variety of categories - astronomy, geography or biology will be available here, Hotnews.ro reported.

“Shows will be 30-40 minutes long giving visitors the chance to travel to the most remote places on Earth, on each planet of the galaxy, or see animations that can help them better understand the notions of geography, meteorology, astronomy or biology," said Alin Pânzaru, manager of Zoo Brasov.

The cost of the project was around RON 8 million (EUR 0.9 million). It is the largest planetarium in Romania in terms of capacity, with 103 seats in a 300-sqm amphitheater, with a slope of 23.5 degrees, to give the feeling of depth. By comparison, the largest planetariums in the country currently have about 45 to 50 seats.

The building has a platform for spectators, and a lift is also available to facilitate wheelchair access.
