Largest Tonitza painting, sold for EUR 125,000; all Artmark auction items sold for EUR 0.45 million
The largest work of the painter Nicolae Tonitza (1886-1940) entitled "Golgotha" was sold, in Bucharest, for EUR 125,000 euros, at an Artmark auction "12 +1 Impressionist masterpieces from private collections", at the Ghika Palace on Thursday evening. "Golgotha" has one square meter dimension and is the largest work of Nicolae Tonitza auctioned on the Romanian art market.
High prices at the Artmark auction were also paid for the following paintings: "Pansies" by Nicolae Grigorescu (1838-1907), sold for EUR 115,000, "Bakery" by Gheorghe Petrascu (1872-1949), that went for EUR 44,000, "Ancient Legend" "Japanese Garden" and "Flowers" by Samuel Mutzner (1884-1959), for EUR 46,000, and respectively EUR 30,000 and EUR 22,000. All the works of art offered for sale in this auction area have been sold, the total value amounting to EUR 454,000.
