Less than 18% of Romania’s unemployed find jobs in Q2
Less than 18% of the Romanians who were unemployed at the end of the March this year found a job between April and June.
Almost 70% of them stayed unemployed, and 12.4% became economically inactive, according to European Union’s statistical office Eurostat.
The figures in Romania were similar to those in the EU. At the EU level, 18.6% of the people who had no job until March became employed between April and June.
The European Union had 22 million unemployed at the end of March. In the following three months, 14.2 million of them still had no jobs, whereas 4.1 million became employed and 3.7 million became economically inactive.
Eurostat uses a different methodology from the national statistics institutions to track population movements in the labor market, so the results could differ. According to Romania’s National Statistics Institute, the country had 625,000 unemployed people at the end of June, down from 655,000 at the end of March.
