Lidl exports EUR 25 mln worth of Romanian products
German retailer Lidl exported Romanian products worth over EUR 25 million last year.
The company also announced that it has expanded the search for fruit and vegetable producers in Romania through a strategic partnership with the University of Agronomic Sciences and Veterinary Medicine in Bucharest. Lidl has launched this initiative within a wider program developed by foreign retailers who want to work more with local farmers as a new law may force hypermarket and supermarket chains to get at least half of the food they sell from local suppliers.
Lidl is currently working with over 100 local producers, the company said. They supply the retailer vegetables, fruits, meat, dairy products, eggs, and bread.
Lidl’s turnover passed the EUR 1 billion mark in Romania last year. Its profit grew almost three times last year to EUR 38.7 million.
