Lidl's recently - rebranded network of stores in Romania grows loss in 2010
German Lidl, the most recent brand added to the discount retailing in Romania, had sales of EUR 346 million last year in the country, through the former Plus Discount network of stores. Lidl bought Plus Discount in February last year and started re-branding its 107 stores under the Lidl name this year.
The company was however not profitable last year in Romania, as it posted a loss of EUR 58.8 million. The loss was over three times bigger than in 2009.
Lidl is part of the Lidl & Schwartz group, which also owns the Kaufland stores in Romania. In Romania, Lidl has over 2,000 employees, according to its financial data.
