Light Festival attracts more than 200,000 people in Bucharest
More than 200,000 people went to see and enjoy the interactive installations and light shows organized during this year’s edition of the Bucharest International Light Festival – Spotlight.
For four days (May 5-8), the event turned part of Bucharest’s Calea Victoriei, one of the most crowded boulevards in the capital, into a pedestrian area. Its program included art installations by Romanian and foreign artists, and video-mapping and architectural lighting sessions that have reinvented the main buildings on Calea Victoriei, such as the National Military Circle, Novotel Hotel, the CEC building, the National Museum of History, and the National Museum of Art. Some other buildings across Bucharest were animated during the event, such as the Fire Tower and the Gheorghe Sincai National College.
The event started with an impressive show of Zoli Toth Project and the Brits from Lords of Lightning. One of the festival’s main attractions was Mindscape Studio’s video-mapping called Oda Bucuriei (Ode to Joy), which marked the Europe Day, celebrated on May 9.
The visitors have also enjoyed the giant hologram projected on the BCR building. For this show, Romanian artists Aural Eye Visions used the most powerful projector available in the country at the moment (30,000 lumens).
The International Light Festival, this year’s partner of the event, was also present with three art installations: Light Carpet IRIS (NL), The Penguin Army (DE), and Angels of Freedom (ISR).
A team of over 100 people worked at this year’s edition of the event. A total surface of some 6,500 sqm was illuminated during the festival.
