Ruling party leader to coordinate Romania 2040 development strategy
Romania’s government has published a draft bill on the Romania 2040 Strategy, which will be created by a special parliamentary committee led by Social Democratic Party (PSD) leader Liviu Dragnea.
The strategy should be adopted by the Parliament and become mandatory for all the governments to follow, local News.ro reported. Dragnea first talked about this strategy at his party’s extraordinary congress in March.
The Romania 2040 Strategy will be drafted through national consensus and will include scenarios and alternative public policies for achieving the proposed goals, according to the Government’s draft bill. The public administration authorities, the Romanian Academy, universities, research institutions, unions, business organizations and NGOs will be invited to contribute to this project.
The strategy will be coordinated by the Romania 2040 parliamentary committee, led by the Chamber of Deputies speaker, according to the Government. The committee will have monthly meetings between June 1 2018 and June 1 2019. Once the strategy is adopted by law, all the Governments will have to include its strategic objectives in their governing programs. The strategy will be reviewed every three years, based on international and local evolutions.
The National Liberal Party (PNL) criticized the project saying that it reflected a communist mentality.
