Local book publisher plans to invite famous child activist Malala to Romania this year for her book launch

05 February 2014

The Romanian book publisher Polirom plans to invite the famous education activist Malala to Romania this year, when the company will also publish Malala's book I am Malala, according to Polirom's editorial director Bogdan-Alexandru Stănescu, quoted by Mediafax newswire.

Malala Yousafzai, 16, is a Pakistani school pupil and education activist who has become renowned worldwide after she was shot in the head by the Talibans in 2012. Two years prior, she started to write on a BBC blog about her life in the Swat Valley in Pakistan, where the Taliban regime had at times banned girls from attending school.

Malala survived the gunshot and recovered, but moved together with her family to the UK. She has since become an international activist, and is constantly being featured in the media across the world. Malala was nominated for the 2013 Nobel Peace Prize, becoming the youngest to get this nomination.

Her book I am Malala is a story of a family affected by global terrorism, and of a girl's fight for education. The book was published in 2013 by Hachette, and Malala co-authored it with British journalist Christina Lamb.

The book is currently among the New York Times best sellers, ranking 6th in February 2014.
