Local companies to upgrade subway access system in Bucharest

17 December 2015

Metrorex, the company that manages the Bucharest subway transport, has selected the association made of TIAB, UTI Grup, and Logic IT Consult for upgrading the access system to the subway stations.

The access will be done through swing gates equipped with devices for contactless and magnetic cards.

The project targets 41 subway stations, and its value is estimated at RON 186 million (EUR 42 million), VAT included, reports local Profit.ro. The contract will be financed with European non-reimbursable funds and money from the state budget.

Metrorex also received an offer from Spain’s Sociedad Iberica de Construcciones Electricas (SICE). The winner was announced in October, but SICE challenged the result at the National Council for Solving Complaints (CNSC). At the end of November, the Council dismissed the Spanish company’s complaint.

UTI Group has got many contracts from state entities in the past years.

Romanian businessman Tiberiu Urdareanu, the owner of the UTI group of companies, admitted on October 30 to charges of bribery, during the hearings at the headquarters of the National Anticorruption Directorate DNA. The prosecutors found that he bribed Iasi’s mayor to get a contract with the city hall for implementing a traffic management system in the city.
