28 November 2013

Chinese officials are interested in the development of an industrial park in the Romanian town of Agigea, in Constanta county on the Black Sea shore.

The investment is estimated at USD 10 billion.  The potential investors have already visited the area a few months ago, according to Nicusor Constantinescu, president of the Constanta County Council.

“There is a new project for a large industrial park in the Agigea port area, Cumpana, Danube-Black Sea Canal,” said Constantinescu.

He added that the industrial park should comprise some 2,000 Romanian-Chinese joint ventures that will process both agricultural products and export them to China, as well as other products, such as electronics, laptops, or phones.

“They have already paid us a visit a few months ago, when they came and flew over the entire area,” said Nicusor Constantinescu.

He also stated that Romania’s Constanta and Tulcea counties need the development of industrial parks and various partnerships with China are beneficial, as the country is a large economic powerhouse.

The Chinese prime minister Li Keqiang ended his three-day visit to Romania on November 28. During his visit, he attended the China – Central and Eastern Europe Cooperation Summit organized in Bucharest on November 26.
