Low river flow affects adventure tourism in Romania

21 November 2014

Adventure tourism operators in Romania, especially those who organize rafting activities, face a constant low water flow in rivers. That is why they request a public program for water machining, at least for the weekend, so they can inform in advance the customers who want to practice this sport, reports local Capital.ro.

Representatives of companies that organize rafting activities showed that they depend on the machining program of a dam because the rivers don’t have sufficient flow to support this sport that can only be organized when there is a higher flow released from the dams.

“We get information about the water flow from Hidroelectrica, one day before. Tell me how I should explain customers that there will be no rafting tomorrow, that we are sorry, we’d like to, we have everything we need, we are there and we are waiting for the water to flow but this is not happening. We’d like to have a machining program at least for the weekend, for some preset hours, so we can contact clients in time and not disappoint them,” said Dan Panturu, TeamAdventure Braşov, cited by Capital.ro.

In this context, the head of Waters, Forests and Fisheries Department within the Ministry of Agriculture, Altan Abdulamid, has proposed creating a working group that will solve the issues faced by adventure tourism operators that organize rafting activities.
