Manufacturing helps boost Romania's industry turnover
Industrial turnover in Romania went up in nominal terms by 9 percent month-on-month in February this year, and by 11.5 percent year-on-year, according to data from the National Statistics Institute.
The growth was fueled by rises in manufacturing – plus 9.4 percent, but also balanced out by the drop of 1.7 percent in the mining and quarrying.
In the first two months of the year, the turnover in industry, including the domestic and non-domestic market, was up 11.5 percent in nominal terms, compared to the same period of 2013.
On main industrial groups, rises were reported in all the sectors: intermediate goods industry (+12.9 percent), capital goods industry (+11.9 percent), durable goods industry (+4.7 percent), energy industry (+4.3 percent) and consumer goods industry (+2.2 percent)
Manufacturing was again the main driver for growth year-on-year in February 2014, with an increase of 12.1 percent. There was a decrease of 4.2 percent in mining and quarrying.
On main industrial groups, rises were recorded in the energy industry (+16.1 percent), intermediate goods industry (+13.1 percent), durable goods industry (+11.9 percent), capital goods industry (+10.0 percent) and consumer goods industry (+8.8 percent).
The turnover represents the total revenue recorded by the company during the reporting period, obtained from both the main activity and the secondary activities performed by it. The turnover does not include VAT, the revenue from the sale or transfer of assets and the excise, according to the INS.
