How many telecom users in Romania switch to other networks?

10 June 2016

Over 370,000 phone numbers have been ported in the first five months of 2016, which means that their owners switched the telecom provider. Almost 350,000 were mobile phone numbers.

About one in two of the mobile phone users who switched to other networks in the first five months, some 166,000 users, moved to the RCS&RDS network. Orange Romania, the country’s biggest mobile carrier drew almost 75,000 clients from other networks, and Vodafone got some 68,000. Telekom Romania “stole” some 40,000 of their competition’s clients.

Romania’s telecom regulator ANCOM made it possible for telecom clients to switch networks and keep their phone numbers in October 2008. Since then, over 3 million such requests have been registered.

Local operator RCS&RDS has registered the highest number of ported numbers from other networks due to their low prices.
