Greek constructor builds 1.75GW gas-fired power plant for Mass Global Energy in Romania
Mass Global Energy Rom, owned by Jordanian entrepreneur Ahmad Ismail Saleh, selected Avax Group, one of the largest and oldest construction conglomerates in Greece, to build a 1.75GW gas-fired power plant on the site of former coal-fired power plant Mintia.
Works are expected to begin immediately and last 38 months, with turnkey delivery expected in the summer of 2026, Profit.ro reported. In the first stage, the construction site in Mintia will create about 700 jobs.
The plant will include two gas turbines, a steam turbine and three generators, all branded by Siemens.
Mass Global Energy took over the Mintia power plant from insolvent energy holding Hunedoara (CE Hunedoara) for EUR 91 mln.
Mass Global Energy Rom has an obligation to complete by the end of 2026 the necessary investment in order to achieve a new energy production unit with an installed capacity of at least 1,290 MW, according to the contract signed when it took over power plant Mintia.
