Mechel buys Laminorul Braila for EUR 9.4 mln

Russian steel and mining company Mechel has taken over the majority share package in local company Laminorul Braila, by buying the firm's main shareholder, Donau Commodities. The deal was worth around EUR 9.4 million. The Braila steel company employees 570 people and has a capacity of producing over 380,000 tonnes per year, producing metallic profiles for the shipping industry, among others. Last year, it posted revenues of EUR 8.3 million and a loss of EUR 9.6 million. The firm is being traded on the Bucharest Stock Exchange under the symbol LMRU.

Mechel owns three other production units in Romania, at Targoviste, Campia Turzii and Buzau.
