Media: Chinese companies show interest in Enel’s power assets in Romania and Slovakia

03 October 2014

Chinese companies are interested in buying the electricity distribution assets Italian group Enel is looking to sell in Romania and Slovakia, according to Enel’s CEO Francesco Starace, cited by Reuters.

Starace said that State Grid Corporation of China had expressed an interest in the company's Romanian distribution and generation assets, but did not say which Chinese firm was interested in Enel's 66% stake in Slovak power plant Slovenske Elektrarne.

Enel has committed to selling more than EUR 4 billion worth of assets this year to cut its debt and keep its investment-grade rating. Besides the assets in Romania and Slovakia, the company also plans to sell part of its 92% stake in Spanish utility Endesa, reports Reuters.
