Romanian servers allegedly used to leak personal data of some 50 million Turks, including President Erdogan
The personal data of nearly 50 million Turkish citizens have allegedly been leaked online via servers in Romania. The leaked data include national ID numbers, addresses, and birthdates, reports AP.
Hackers have posted a database online which seems to contain private information of more than 49.6 million Turkish citizens, including President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, his predecessor Abdullah Gul, and Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu.
According to AP, the site appears to be hosted by an Icelandic group that specializes in divulging leaks, using servers in Romania.
The leak, which is one of the largest leaks of this kind, also came with a message: "Who would have imagined that backwards ideologies, cronyism, and rising religious extremism in Turkey would lead to a crumbling and vulnerable technical infrastructure?"
Turkish officials haven't commented on the leak.
