Mega Image closes three shops located in buildings with high seismic risk in Bucharest, opens four others
Belgian retailer Mega Image has closed three shops located in buildings with high seismic risk in Bucharest, but has opened four other units instead.
The retailer’s decision came after the entry into force of the new law on buildings with high seismic risk, and following the authorities’ evaluation of the spaces were the Mega Image shops operate, reports local Mediafax.
However, Mega Image opened four new stores in Bucharest and Ilfov county. It now runs a network of 457 stores, one of the biggest in Romania.
The new law which forbids stores, restaurants and other commercial units to operate at the ground floor of buildings with high seismic risk has entered into force in November. As the law was enforced, many restaurants and bars in Bucharest's Old Town were closed down, as many of the buildings could collapse at a strong eartquake.
