Romanians flock to attend Bucharest's biggest mall opening in five years
After having postponed the mall opening from end-April to mid-May, and despite not having all the bits and pieces in order, investment fund NEPI decided to inaugurate its Mega Mall in Bucharest on May 14, keeping its promise, and attracting crowds of visitors. The biggest mall opening in Bucharest in the last five years was met with crowds from early in the morning. The 72,000 sqm mall, which hosts a Carrefour anchor store, was full all day on May 14, as Romanians wanted to take advantage of the opening day offers from various retailers, or were just curious to see the new shopping destination.
While crowds invaded the new shopping center, teams of workers continued to add the last touches to the mall, while some retailers, which are yet to open shop, kept organizing their new stores. Shops such as Peek & Cloppenburg, Reserved, Pepco and Mango were not yet ready for shoppers on opening day.
Cinema City is set to open its 14-screen, 2,366-seat cinema, including a 4Dx screening hall, on May 15, while World Class still has to inaugurate its fitness center that will host a semi-Olympic swimming pool. The food court, with some 10,000 seats, was however operational, and so were most of the units run by over 220 mall tenants.
