Metrorex to install 35 touch screen metro card vending machines in Bucharest

Metrorex, the metro network operator in Bucharest, will install 35 new metro card vending machines that will be functional from June 15, 2011, according to the company. The new touch screen vending machines will also be available to people with disabilities and their display will be billingual, in Romanian and English. Payments will be made in the Romanian coins and banknotes indicated on the device, or using Visa or Mastercard cards.

The new vending machines will be installed in stages in the following metro stations in Bucharest: Aparatorii Patriei, Piata Sudului, Eroii Revolutiei, Piata Unirii, Universitate, Piata Romana, Aviatorilor, Titan, Nicolae Grigorescu 1, Dristor 1, Eroilor, Lujerului, Gorjului, Pacii, Grozavesti, Crangasi, Basarab, Gara de Nord, Piata Victoriei 2, Obor, Piata Iancului, Aurel Vlaicu, 1 Mai, 1 Decembrie 1918, Anghel Saligny, Preciziei, Pipera, Republica, Stefan cel Mare, Piata Muncii, Berceni, Pajura and Parc Bazilescu.

In May, Metrorex announced its plans to expand the fourth line with two more stops, following an estimated investment of EUR 300 million. The Bucharest metro network has a length of 67 kilometers, divided into four lines that have 49 stations in total.
