Minister: Romania & Bulgaria could be reviewed separately for Schengen

30 September 2014

A separate evaluation of Romania and Bulgaria within the Cooperation and Verification Mechanism (CVM) is a scenario that can be taken into consideration, said Romania’s justice minister Robert Cazanciuc.

The EC should even think of different steps for the two countries’ entry into Schengen and even of different deadlines. According to Cazanciuc, the most recent CVM report shows a difference in the progresses made by Romania and Bulgaria on judicial reform, fight against corruption and organized crime.

Former EU Commissioner Verheugen: Schengen entry for Romania soon, delay was due to pre-election politics. Accepting Romania in the EU in 2007 was the best possible decision

PM: Romania will not join Schengen before elections for the European Parliament
