Ministries make plans to increase payments by card in Romania

27 November 2015

Romania’s Finance Ministry will hire for three years a specialist who will be in charge of implementing a system to facilitate tax payments by card. The specialist will receive EUR 5,000 net per month.

The project of developing the Treasury’s infrastructure will be financed with European funds, said Valentin Mavrodin, director of the General Directorate of Treasury within the Finance Ministry, reports local Mediafax.

The project will first centralize the Treasury’s databases, it will then introduce internet banking services for the public institutions and the companies they cooperate with, and then it will integrate card payments.

The value of tax payments made via the online application ghiseul.ro, which allows the payment of taxes by card, has reached RON 48 million (EUR 10.8 million) in the last five years.

This is a “ridiculous amount,” said the Information Society Minister Marius Raul Bostan, reports Agerpres. The Ministry will try to expand the platform and unify the services.

Companies should also be able to use the platform, which is currently aimed only for individuals, Bostan added.
