Mobile internet grows 10 times faster than fixed internet in Romania
Mobile internet growth in Romania between June 2013 and June 2014 was 10 times faster than fixed internet growth in the same period, according to Romania's communications authority ANCOM.
Mobile internet connections rose by more than 2 million new connections during this period, while fixed internet connections only increased by 200,000.
Mobile internet connections recorded a jump from 8.2 million active connections in mid-2013 to 10.5 million in mid-2014, while fixed internet connections increased from 3.7 million in mid-2013 to 3.9 million in mid-2014.
The penetration rate of mobile internet per 100 inhabitants reached 52.1% in the first six months of the year, up by 11% compared to the same period last year. The penetration rate of fixed internet per 100 inhabitants was 19.4% in the first half of this year, nearly three quarters of connections being used by urban residents (2.8 million) and more than a quarter, by those in rural areas (1.1 million).
