The increasing number of preventive arrest in the recent period has triggered the Bucharest Police to plan a modern, large arrest center in the 4th District of the city, on the Vitan – Barzesti street.

The center will have enough room for 500 arrested people, and will cover some 32,000 sqm. The center will have its own kitchen, a sports area and medical rooms.

A public tender will be organized to choose the designer, and then constructor for the project. The project is meant to improve arrest conditions, as many Romanians have won at the European Court of Human Rights because of the poor conditions in arrest and detention centers.

The number of preventive arrests has increased in the last 12 months, in cases ranging from corruption, money laundry, abuse of office. The arrested include business people, judges, politicians, mayors, among others. Even the Romanian president's brother was arrested.
