Modern retail stock reaches 1.2 million sqm in Bucharest

The modern retail stock in Bucharest reached 1.22 million sqm at the end of last year, after developers completed two new shopping centers with a rentable area of almost 100,000 sqm, according to study by DTZ Echinox.

Bucharest’s District 6, which includes neighborhoods such as Militari, Crangasi and Drumul Taberei, continues to have the largest area of modern commercial spaces in Bucharest, reaching a total stock of 301,000 sqm at the end of 2016. District 3, which hosts the Titan, Vitan, and Dristor neighborhoods, has a stock of 270,000 sqm. The two districts make up for 47% of the total stock of modern retail in Bucharest.

District 5, however, only has a stock of 65,000 sqm, with three commercial centers.

By comparison, Timisoara’s modern commercial spaces amount to 220,000 sqm, below the level recorded in either Bucharest’s District 3 or 6.
