“Moldova” highway should be included in Romania's Transport Master Plan

09 December 2014

The Romanian Federation of Transport Operators (FORT) has asked the authorities to include the Targu Mures-Iasi-Ungheni highway, nicknamed the "Moldova Highway", in the Transport Master Plan, arguing that the completion of this highway will create new jobs and increase tourism and exports.

"The Romanian Government as a whole and the Ministry of Transport should be aware that without this highway, the Moldova region remains condemned to poverty, so it is urgent to really open this region to the west of the country," reads a FORT statement, cited by local news agency Mediafax.

"The benefits of building this highway that would connect the East of the European Union to the western region, with transit through Romania, would bring a 30% increase in tourism, jobs and exports. The Targu Mures-Iasi-Ungheni highway means a 50-60% improvement of Romania's transport network".
