MoneyGram targets Romanian workers abroad in newly launched campaign

Money transfer company MoneyGram has launched a new European-wide campaign that targets the Romanians who work abroad and their families back home.

Called We know what DOR is, the campaign is based on the Romanian word dor, which describes a feeling of “positive nostalgia,” according to the company.

"Today we're launching the We know what DOR is campaign in six countries - Romania, the United Kingdom, Belgium, Germany, Italy, and Spain," said Nicoleta Visan, MoneyGram senior marketing manager for Romania.

"It will be visible across all key media including in-home, out-of-home, and digital channels, and in many agent locations."

According to Radu Pojoga, regional director for the Balkans at MoneyGram, Romania is a key market for MoneyGram. That is why the company has expanded its network to 3,500 locations across the country and opened a new flagship office in central Bucharest.

"As part of making money transfers easier for our customers, in 2016 we have launched cash-to-mobile and cash-to-account in cooperation with Earthport - our partner providing cross-border payments services to banks. Now Romanians can send money directly to mobile wallet or any bank account in local currency," he added.

According to World Bank estimates, more than 3.4 million Romanians work abroad. Some one million live in Italy, 785,000 in Spain, 355,000 in Germany, and 150,000 in Great Britain.

Some USD 3.2 billion in money transfers was sent to Romania in 2015, with most of the money coming from Italy – over USD 930 million, according to the World Bank. The Romanians living in Spain sent some USD 740 million back home whereas those in Germany transferred USD 422 million.
