More companies in Romania know about the sponsorship law, only 20% donate
Only one in five local profitable companies directed funds to the NGO sector under the sponsorship law in 2014, although the sponsorship facility is known by 87% of the small and medium-sized companies in Romania, reads a EY Romania press release.
The local non-profit sector could have received EUR 318 million through the sponsorship law.
Starting January 1, 2016, companies can direct more funds to sponsorships, as the threshold has been increased from 0.3% to 0.5% of the turnover.
Most companies directed funds to education (27%), social protection (20%), health (19%), or sport (17%). Only 11% of the companies financed art and 6% financed NGOs active in the environment protection sector.
