The number of fixed telephone lines in Romania increased in the first six months of 2011 by 4.1 percent to 4.89 million, while the number of subscribers went up by 3.6 percent, after three consecutive quarters on a downward trend, according to data provided by the National Authority for Management and Regulation in Communications (ANCOM).

“According to the data reported by the 51 active suppliers in the retail market for the first half of 2011, traffic and average call duration decreased, but the number of access lines and the number of subscribers increased,” according to ANCOM.

On average, each Romanian spoke for 3 minutes and 2 seconds on each landline call in the first half of 2011, a 0.7 percent decrease from the average duration of a fixed line call made in the second half of 2010.
