More money and expensive items missing from safety boxes at Romanian bank, 12 complaints so far
Another complaint was filed on Thursday (October 31) in the case of missing money and expensive items from safe deposit boxes at the BCR branch in Pitesti, Romania, bringing the total number of complaints reaching 12, according to local news agency Mediafax.
Arges Police representatives said that, according to the complaint, the amount missing from the deposit box is EUR 100,000.
However, the total amount missing from the 12 boxes goes over EUR 2 million, Mediafax reports, quoting judicial sources.
Last week, a man reported that money, gold jewellery and a 100-year old watch, as well as USD 130,000 and RON 49,000 went missing from his deposit box at the bank in Pitesti.
During this week, other Romanians complained that their money and expensive items disappeared from the safety boxes at the same bank.
Sources among investigators said that there are two main suspects in this case, one of them being a man with Romanian-Spanish citizenship, reports Mediafax.
In a press release, the Romanian General Police Inspectorate recommended all security standards of banking units be revised, including ensuring audio and video monitoring of the spaces where safety boxes are held.
Moreover, ”the Police Inspectorate works together with banks and the Romanian Banks Association to identify the theft suspects,” reads the statement.
BCR is the largest bank in Romania, with a net profit of EUR 127 million in the first nine months of 2013.
