More people evacuated from Romania’s Galati county after flooding, villages in Vaslui affected as well
Another 400 people were forced to leave their homes on Thursday night (September 12), as floods spread through Galati county.
A total of 16 communes, several villages and the city of Tecuci have been inundated since heavy rains started on Wednesday night.
The most recent evacuations centred on the Valea Marului commune, according to representatives of Galati Prefecture, quoted by local news agency Mediafax.
Also, several roads linking the affected villages were blocked by the floods.
Vaslui county, located in Eastern Romania, was also hit by the heavy rains.
A total of 15 houses and 50 households in Zorleni village were affected by floods on Friday morning (September 13).
“We have 35 military firefighters, two trucks and five motor pumps to evacuate water from the flooded houses in the area,” said Alina Poiana, spokesman Vaslui Inspectorate for Emergency Situations ISU, quoted by Mediafax.
Nine people have died and 700 houses have been flooded since heavy rains inundated Galati county in south eastern Romania on Wednesday night.
The first night of flooding saw 519 people evacuated from their houses.
The worst damage was reported in the Cudalbi village where 500 houses and their gardens were flooded and 200 people were forced to leave their homes.
People affected by the recent floods received more than 20,000 liters of water, 550 blankets, more than 10,000 kilograms of canned meats and pate, 300 liters of oil and 500 kilograms of flour in support.
The weather report shows rain continuing on Friday night (September 13).
Galati, Braila and Tulcea counties have all been placed under Code Orange of rain, while other six counties in Southeastern Romanian, including Vaslui county, are under a Code Yellow.
