More than 60 movies screened at the European Film Festival in Romania

Over 60 films will be screened at this year’s edition of the European Film Festival, taking place between May 4 and May 28. More than 35 films will be shown for the first time in Romania at the event, which aims to promote the diversity of European cinema.

The films in the program cover a variety of genres, from documentaries, biographic films, and dramas to animations, comedies, thrillers and horror films. Most of the films were launched in 2016 and 2017.

The festival will open with Finish film The Other Side of Hope, directed by Aki Kaurismäki. The film is shown for the first time in Romania and will be screened in the opening of all the five local editions of the festival, in Bucharest, Iași, Tîrgu Mureș, Gura Humorului, and Timișoara. Director Kaurismäki won the Golden Bear for Best Director at this year’s edition of the Berlin International Film Festival.

Romanian director Gabriel Achim’s film The Last Day will be screened at all five editions as well, and will close the Bucharest edition, on May 11th.

Radu Mihăileanu's most recent film, The History of Love, will be screened in Timișoara, before its national premiere scheduled during the Transylvania International Film Festival (TIFF).

In Bucharest, the screenings will take place at the National Art Museum MNAR, the Romanian Peasant Cinema, the Elvire Popesco Cinema, the Czech Center, the Cervantes Institute and at the European Public Space.

Access to screenings at the local editions and at those at cultural centers in Bucharest is free. For the rest, tickets can be purchased at eventbook.ro.
