More tourists check in Romania’s hotels in January

Romania’s hotels and guesthouses recorded over 581,000 tourist arrivals in January, up by 16.6% year-on-year.

The Romanian tourists accounted for 78.7% of the arrivals whereas the foreigners had a share of 21.3%, according to the National Statistics Institute (INS).

The overnight stays in local hotels exceeded 1.1 million in January, up by 15.9% compared to January 2015. Romanians accounted for 76.7% of the overnight stays whereas the foreign tourists were responsible for 23.3% of them.

The average stay in a hotel or guesthouse amounted to 1.9 days for the Romanian tourists and 2.2 days for the foreign tourists.

The number of foreign tourists who checked into local hotels was close to 20% higher compared to January 2015. Most of them came from the EU and stayed in Bucharest or other big cities.
