14 October 2014

Almost 70% of Romanians believe that cutting the presidential mandate to 4 years is a good idea, while just 17% consider this to be a bad idea, according to the results of an INSCOP survey. The presidential mandate in Romania currently for five years, but it used to be four years until 2004.

The percentage also remains high among those who say they will for sure go to vote at this year’s presidential elections scheduled for November 2. Over 73% of them support the idea of a 4-year presidential mandate.

The survey also reveals that 45.5% of Romanians agree with a 2-year term for the next president to be elected in November. This would allow the next presidential elections to be organized in 2016 in the same time with the parliamentary elections. On the other hand, a relatively similar figure, namely some 40%, believe this wouldn’t be a good idea.

The INSCOP survey was conducted between October 2 and October 8 at the request of local publication Adevarul, on a sample of 1,095 people aged 18 and over 18.

Half of Romanians are interested in this year’s electoral campaign.
