Which are the most valuable companies in Romania?
Oil and gas group OMV Petrom has regained first place in the ranking of the most valuable companies in Romania this year. The group’s market value increased by 35% compared to 2017, reaching EUR 4.72 billion, according to this year’s edition of the Top 100 Most Valuable Companies in Romania published by local financial daily Ziarul Financiar.
OMV Petrom thus surpassed power producer Hidroelectrica, who held the first place in the previous two editions. Hidroelectrica’s market value went up by 9% in the last year, to EUR 3.85 billion.
Gas producer Romgaz is third in this ranking, with a market value of EUR 2.85 billion, up 12%.
The surprise of this year’s ranking is tech company UiPath, which made its entry in this ranking directly on fourth place, with a value of EUR 2.55 billion. UiPath is currently based in the U.S. but was started in Bucharest by two Romanian entrepreneurs. The company, which specializes in robotic process automation (RPA), raised some USD 400 million from investors this year, becoming the first Romanian unicorn (startup valued at over USD 1 billion).
Banca Transilvania, on firth, is the most valuable bank in Romania, with a market value of EUR 2.42 billion, up 17% compared to last year. BCR, Automobile Dacia, BRD, Dedeman and Orange Romania are the other companies that made the top 10 this year.
