How much added value does Coca-Cola bring to the Romanian economy?
US soft drinks producer Coca-Cola brings EUR 448 million worth of added value to the Romanian economy, the equivalent of 0.3% of the gross domestic product (DGP), according to a group study called The Socio-Economic Impact of the Coca-Cola System in Romania.
More than half of this sum, namely EUR 241 million, represents the contribution to the state budget, which stands for 0.8% of the taxes collected by the Romanian state.
The direct added value is EUR 53 million, but each EUR 1 of added value produced by Coca-Cola generates EUR 7.5 of added value in the rest of the economy, through suppliers, marketing and consultancy providers, distributors, transporters, and the retail chain. Over 90% of Coca-Cola’s suppliers in Romania are local. The company employs some 1,500 people but it supports a total of 19,900 jobs in the local labor market, or 0.3% of the local labor force.
The Coca-Cola system in Romania is made of Coca-Cola Romania, a subsidiary of The Coca-Cola Company, which owns the trademarks, and Coca-Cola HBC Romania, the subsidiary of bottling company Coca-Cola Hellenic, which produces and distributes products under the Coca-Cola brand.
