The brand and track record of the insolvent Romanian football team FC Otelul Galati will be sold at an auction organized by local auction house Artmark in Bucharest.

The investors interested in buying the club’s brands and trophies, including the trophy for winning the national football league Liga I in the 2010-2011 season and the Romanian Supercup also won in 2011, will be able to place bids starting from EUR 9,000. The club’s illustrated history, consisting of 106 official photos and posters will sell for a starting price of EUR 3,500.

The auction catalog also includes equipment and t-shirts worn by the club’s former players. The auction will take place on Thursday, February 23, starting 19:30, at Armark's Cesianu-Racovita Palace in Bucharest.

FC Otelul Galati was founded in 1964 and dissolved in 2006, due to financial problems. The club’s biggest performance was winning the national football championship in the 2010-2011 season. The next season, Otelul played in the UEFA Champions League group stage against teams such as Manchester United and Benfica Lisbon.

The club’s problems started in 2012, after Romanian investor Dan Adamescu took over the club from ArcelorMittal Galati, the company that operates the biggest steel plant in Romania. Otelul went bankrupt in 2016.

Dan Adamescu died in January 2016 while serving a prison sentence for corruption.
