Romanian TV comedian Mugur Mihaescu, who became famous in a TV sitcom called ‘Vacanta mare’  (The Big Holiday), was appointed personal advisor to Bucharest mayor Gabriela Firea.

The mayor herself launched her public career in television as a news anchor and later as a show moderator.

Mihaescu, who is also an investor in pubs and bars, will manage Bucharest’s Old Town project and will be middle person between businesses and inhabitants in the historic area and the municipality.

“I hope to move things that seemed stuck forever,” said Firea.

The Comedians’ Association in the Old Town has proposed Mihaescu for this office. He is the association’s deputy president, and owns a bar in the Old Town. Firea explained that she wanted a person “from outside”, who knows the problems of those who have businesses in the Old Town.
