Multipurpose hall to be built in western Romania with EUR 22 mln
The Romanian Government approved on Wednesday the construction of a new multipurpose hall in Oradea, Western Romania, which would require an investment of RON 99.96 million (over EUR 22 million).
The money will come from the Ministry of Regional Development, from the local budget of the Oradea Territorial Administrative Unit, and from other sources, according to a statement from the Government.
The new hall will be built in 27 months, and will have a capacity of 5,000 seats, double the size of the current multipurpose hall in Oradea.
“The hall will meet the continental federations’ criteria for indoor team sports (handball, basketball, volleyball) for organizing European and international championships and Cups, up to the level of quarterfinals. Thus, Oradea will join the network of cities with halls approved for continental competitions and will be able to host such games,” reads the statement.
The space around the hall will also be arranged. A pedestrian area will be created there, which will operate as a neighbourhood park. Moreover, the parking spaces to be created at the new polyvalent hall could be used to ease the traffic in the city, as visitors will also be allowed to use it when no contests are being organized there.
