Union Hall and Museum in Romania’s Alba Iulia to be revamped with EUR 2.2 mln

26 January 2016

The Union Hall and Union Museum in Alba Iulia, central Romania, will enter a rehabilitation process which should be completed by 2018, the year that marks 100 years since the Great Union.

The revamping work will cost some RON 10 million (EUR 2.2 million), reports local Digi24. According to Dan Popescu, technic director at Alba County council, the work could start in the summer of 2016.

It’s been 20 years since the Museum and the Union Hall have been rehabilitated. There are cracks in their walls, the exterior is also in a bad shape, and the roof needs to be repaired as well.

The Museum and the Union Hall are two of the most important tourist attractions in Alba Iulia, more than 100,000 tourists coming here annually. The access to the Union Hall is free while the entry fee for the Museum is RON 8 (less than EUR 2).

The Union Museum is located within the Alba Carolina fortress, Alba Iulia's main tourist attraction, which has also been rehabilitated with EUR 67 million mostly coming from EU funds.
