NATO asks Romania to increase its emergency intervention capacity
Romania’s Health Ministry and the Department for Emergency Situations within the Ministry of Interior have plan to acquire at least 1,650 new ambulances and five helicopters for the emergency service SMURD by 2018.
They will also complete ten new emergency units this year.
An official document, signed by a member of the Ciolos Government, shows that NATO experts have recommended Romania to supplement its emergency intervention capacity in the case of natural disasters and conflicts, reports local Profit.ro.
Romanian institutions also plan to raise the number of jobs within the emergency departments and ambulance services. Moreover, the Health Ministry is considering connecting the private emergency services to the public ones.
In the case of emergencies with multiple victims, private emergency units could thus take up a significant part of the public ambulance services’ work.
