Nearly 3 million LED lights ready to light Bucharest, marking the beginning of winter holidays

Nearly three million lights were ready to be illuminated on Friday, December 6 in Bucharest, during a ceremony in Universitate Square.

The Christmas lights have been installed in the central areas of Magheru, Nicolae Balcescu, I. C. Bratianu and Unirii boulevards, Unirii, Universitatii, Romana, Victoriei, Charles de Gaulle squares, as well as other boulevards, such as Lascar Catargiu, Regina Elisabeta, Calea Dorobantilor, Calea Victoriei, Kiseleff and Aviatorilor.

Christmas lights and ornaments were also put up in the Old Town, as well as in George Enescu, Natiunile Unite, Constitutiei, Rosetti, Regelui and Operei squares.

A 15-meter tall Christmas tree now sits in the middle of the Christmas market at Universitate Square, which will stay open between December 6, 2013 and January 5, 2014.

The market will welcome visitors with winter ornaments and decorations, exhibitions of traditional and hand-made products, wood and ceramic decorations, as well as traditional Romanian food products. Concerts and other events will also be organized.

According to the Bucharest City Hall, Romania’s capital is included in the international network of the most important Christmas fairs in Europe - ChristmasMarkets.
